What If HIV Tests Are Wrong? Don't Spend a Day Without Listening or Reading This?

By Damon L. Jacobs
Pergunta:
Two years ago, I had unprotected receptive anal sex with someone whose HIV status I do not know. I was tested at three weeks (with a fourth generation test), and it was negative. A little over a year after the possible exposure, I had pneumonia. Although I responded to antibiotics at home, it seemed more serious than people my age (26) usually have. So naturally, I searched Google and freaked out.
I found a web page that said bacterial pneumonia could be the first clinical manifestation of HIV. So I took the test again (with a fourth generation test) one year and nine months after the possible exposure, and again it was negative.

The problem is, I get terrified every time I get cold from pneumonia (because I read recurrent pneumonia is indicative of HIV), and I wonder:

Should I do another test? Or a viral load test to be sure?

I am concerned that for some reason I am not producing antibodies but that I have HIV and that this is not being detected by a test. (Actually, I Claudius say this: Three tests - here declared -….)

What If HIV Tests Are Wrong?

Could I be one of those people who has HIV but never seroconverts (an immunosilent)? I'm going crazy and I don't know what to do. Please give me your opinion!

Answer

I will start with the short answer here: You did not get HIV at this meeting. The fourth generation test conducted in three weeks confirmed this. The fourth generation test conducted one year and nine months after this exposure confirmed what was already proven.
I don't know if you are a seronegative person who will never convert. What I can tell you is that you are very unlikely to reconvert after just one exposure to HIV. Even if your partner is living with HIV and even if he has a detectable viral load - and these are two good questions - Your chances of getting HIV from exposure through receptive anal sex are approximately 1 to 72 (1,43%).

This is not zero, but it is quite low.

HIV seroconversions usually occur after multiple exposures.

Your phrase, "So naturally, I googled it and went crazy," talks a lot about what's really going on here, and is indicative of the blessing and curse of our information age.

Overall, I think it is an advantage to live in a time when information about early signs of HIV seroconversion is available to anyone with a Wi-Fi connection.

On the other hand, it can and does create a dynamic in which people read about HIV symptoms and then mentally manifest those symptoms.

It's A Somatization, I Say… I'm Not Crazy! He says

It is a complicated game that our mind can play when we are anxious, afraid and scanning the Internet all the time.

Now here's a little story: In 2011, one of my favorite singers, Stevie Nicks, was embarking on an extraordinarily small tour of major US cities. She was healthy, strong, sober, energetic and wanted to play in intimate places where she could feel connected to her audience.

It turned out that her first new solo album in 10 years would be released at the same time as my birthday, and she would appear in a very small theater near where I lived.

I would be 40 years old, buy your new album and see it live and closely, all in the same week!

A dream of life come true!

But Stevie never made it to New York City. And why not?

Because she, like more than 400.000 Americans, was stricken with pneumonia that year, causing her to cancel all dates of her tour. Pneumonia is a very common and brutal infection that kills more than 900.000 children worldwide each year.

Pneumonia Not Synonymous with HIV

It is not synonymous with HIV, and is easily spread by casual contact with saliva or mucus. - I, Claudio Souza, stopped counting in the eighth or ninth, I don't even know anymore. Only the release appeared to vaccinate people with HIV against pneumonia and it disappeared. ”

Why, my beloved readers, do you not do this?
I know that some people may associate pneumonia with AIDS, as many people with AIDS died of pneumonia when exposed before we had effective treatment for HIV. But that does not mean that having pneumonia is now a sign of having AIDS or being HIV positive. Stevie Nicks is certainly not, and not most children who suffer severely from pneumonia every year.
Although the “FAIDS Obia”Is not an official clinical diagnosis, it is often used to describe people who believe they have HIV, even though they have not been exposed, and who do not believe in medical tests that return negative for HIV.

Often therapy and medications can help.

I am a person living with HIVMy opinion is that you could talk to a therapist in your area. I hope this helps you to start the process of prioritize rationality over terror and put the facts about the fears.
